Tidal Echoes 2025 Launch Event, April 4th

Date of Press Release: April 2, 2025

(Juneau) - The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) is proud to host the 2025 Tidal Echoes Launch event this Friday, April 4th in the Egan Lecture Hall on the Juneau campus. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the festivities begin at 7:00 pm.

Featured Artist Mark Sixbey, who specializes in Northwest Coast wood carving, will discuss his work, and award-winning Alaska writer Corinna Cook will do a reading, which will be followed by a Q&A. UAS student Sophia Gimm, who won this year's MacBehrend's Prize, will also share her prize-winning poem.

Light refreshments will be served, and copies of this year’s edition will be available for $5 each. Though we encourage people to attend the Launch, the event will also be live-streamed through the UAS YouTube channel for anyone unable to participate in person.

Tidal Echoes is a literary and arts journal published by UAS that presents the works of writers and artists from all over Southeast Alaska. The journal accepts submissions of prose, including fiction, non-fiction, transcribed oral stories, memoirs, drama, and poetry of all types. In addition to writing, artwork of all mediums is accepted digitally, which allows the journal to include sculpture, painting, ceramics, photography, and drawing in each issue.

Interim Dean of Arts & Sciences Alison Staudinger is looking forward to this launch because "Tidal Echoes' excellent student editors have a gift for bringing together voices you didn’t even know you needed to hear. They highlight the talents of UAS students alongside established artists and writers, creating a journal that reflects the depth and creativity of our region. Join us in celebrating this year’s contributors and the vibrant artistic community that makes Southeast Alaska so special."
