UA Giving Day - Thank You UAS Donors!

Date of Press Release: April 15, 2025

(Juneau, Alaska) - The University of Alaska Southeast community united in an extraordinary show of support for UAS during the annual crowdfunding-style UA Giving Day philanthropy event. Because of the generosity of 209 UAS alumni and friends, $79,039 was raised to support UAS! This is an inspiring 31% increase in donors and a 51% increase in dollars raised.

"Your generosity directly supports UAS students, faculty, staff, and programs. A special thanks to those who created matching gifts, amplifying the impact! Thank you for making UAS Giving Day a success!" remarked UAS Chancellor Aparna Palmer

Several priorities were highlighted across UAS’ schools and programs - acknowledging the important education and research that is always ongoing. Some of those priorities were:
  • UAS Suicide Prevention Awareness Support: To help sustain critical programs like "Why I Stay," supporting outreach, staff training, and student stipends to save lives and promote mental well-being within our community.
  • University of Alaska Southeast Alumni Endowed Scholarship: To provide crucial financial assistance to deserving students, empowering them to pursue academic dreams and make a direct impact in shaping futures.
  • Dr. Sol Neely Indigenous Studies Memorial Fund:  To provide meaningful support for the study, preservation, and revitalization of Alaska Native languages and to advance academic and community engagement in Indigenous Studies.
Some of the areas that donors gave to were amplified by matching and challenge gifts. UAS had 8 challenges unlocked during the 49-hour event, including:
  • Former UAS Chancellor Karen Carey’s $10,000 Match to the Dr. Sol Neely Indigenous Studies Memorial fund.
  • Wostmann & Associates’ $2,000 Match to the Dr. Alfred E. Widmark Alaska Native & Rural Student Center Support
  • The Grind Coffee Co.’s $1,000 Match to the UAS Suicide Prevention Awareness Support fund.
  • Juneau Campus Advisory Council’s $1,600 Challenge to the UAS General Support fund.
The University of Alaska Southeast extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who “found their reason to give” during the UA Giving Day 2025, which took place March 25-27.
