(Juneau, Alaska) - The University of Alaska Southeast is proud to be awarded the Military Friendly School Gold Distinction and Military Spouse Friendly School designation. Military Friendly is an organization that identifies schools that will best enable veterans to build satisfying careers during their transition into the civilian world as well as ensuring that military spouses have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed in their academic and career pursuits.
“It is so important for veterans, active-duty military, and military spouses to feel at home in the communities they have sacrificed to protect,” said UAS Chancellor Aparna Palmer. “We welcome them to UAS and want to serve them in a way that honors their service to our country. We are thrilled and humbled by this recognition of our commitment.”
The Military Friendly Advisory Council is composed of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment communities. Among the criteria for choosing schools are their ability to retain and graduate students, and navigate the financing of their education. “Military Friendly’s standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and support services that better the educational landscape and provide opportunity for the Military Community,” said Kayla Lopez, Military Friendly’s National Director of Military Partnerships. “This creates a competitive atmosphere that encourages Institutions to evolve and invest in their programs consistently. Schools who achieve awards designation show true commitment in their efforts, going over and above that standard.”
