University of Alaska Southeast Welcomes New Dean of Education and Sitka Campus Director

(Juneau, Alaska) - The University of Alaska Southeast is pleased to announce Dr. Carlee Simon as the Dean of the School of Education and Dr. Jeremy Rupp as the Sitka Campus Director.
“We are thrilled to have two such knowledgeable and enthusiastic leaders join us at UAS. Each of them brings the depth of experience that we need to grow and thrive as a university dedicated to fueling the workforce in Alaska,” remarked Chancellor Aparna Palmer.
Dr. Carlee Simon - Dean of the School of Education
Dr. Carlee Simon, who has served as interim dean of the School of Education since 2023, was officially appointed as the permanent dean in December 2024. During her time as interim dean, Dr. Simon led the School through a successful two-year accreditation process with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), securing full accreditation at both the initial and advanced levels.
As permanent dean, Dr. Simon continues to advance the School’s mission to collaborate with PreK–12 schools, communities, and faculty to prepare and support effective teachers and educational leaders. Her work is focused on strengthening the education profession across both rural and urban settings, with a strong emphasis on meeting Alaska’s unique needs.
Dr. Simon holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy with a specialization in public school finance, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Policy, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design.
Dr. Jeremy Rupp - Sitka Campus Director
Dr. Jeremy J. Rupp has been appointed the new Campus Director for the UAS Sitka Campus. He replaces Dr. Paul Kraft, who retired earlier this year.
Dr. Rupp brings over 25 years of experience in education, community engagement, and strategic leadership. Originally from Soldotna, Dr. Rupp was raised internationally between Kenya and Uganda. Dr. Rupp has dedicated his career to expanding educational access, workforce development, and community-driven initiatives. As Sitka Campus Director, Dr. Rupp will serve as the campus’ chief operating officer, responsible for strategic planning and budget management, instructional activities, facilities management, and day-to-day operations.
Dr. Jeremy Rupp holds a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) and is a senior fellow with the Center for Policy Design. Dr. Rupp also holds a Master’s in Education, a Bachelor's in Psychology and Theological Studies, and a Community Education Director’s License.
